About the Role
Position Summary:
The Banquet Captain participates in, coordinates, and oversees the planning and delivery of all event functions at the venue. This includes supervising the banquet staff and all stages of the event such as logistics, operations and set-up and breakdown activities to ensure the highest levels of efficiency and guest satisfaction is consistently maintained.
Duties and Responsibilities:
• Conducts pre-function meetings with staff to discuss event details. This includes confirming schedules and times; reviewing proper set up and serving techniques; service sequences; equipment needed, clarifying issues or concerns raised by staff, etc.
• Directs staff to set-up rooms prior to event ensuring cleanliness; tables are appropriately set and all equipment is functioning.
• Meet and greet members and their guests. Immediately initiate contact with the member holding the event to establish a point of contact throughout the event, introduce staff, confirm details, respond to queries, amendments and any additional requirements, etc.
• Maintain constant contact with the kitchen to confirm and recheck numbers and volume of food. Inform appropriate kitchen staff whom the designated point people are to call and order from the kitchen.
• Throughout the event, anticipates and identifies opportunities to up-sell services to members. Maintains regular contact with members and their guests to ensure their needs are fully met and satisfaction is maintained.
• Assist Servers throughout the function ensuring the highest service standards are delivered and operating standards are maintained. Requisitions additional food and beverages as appropriate.
• Maintains the highest levels of cleanliness, sanitation and safety throughout the event.
• Prepares guest checks and gratuity breakdowns as appropriate. Prepares Captain’s report and communicates with opposite shift captain on important details of the day.
• Directs and oversees all end of shift clean-up duties and restocking of serving kitchens for the next shift. Ensures all areas are clean and in order before releasing staff.
• Generates and promotes teamwork and highest work ethics between kitchen and banquet staff.
• Wears radio at all times to ensure members needs are met in the quickest manner possible and to ensure all aspects of the event runs efficiently. Keeps Banquet Manager informed of all activities, progress, and problems.
• Attends monthly training classes and staff meetings as required.
